The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Without Lone Ranger, no Yellowman, no Shabba Ranks, no Sean Paul...

Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album in 2005 (Kulchaklash / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), and a hit single in 2006 making waves all over the irie globe, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's Message To You Rudie, The Lone Ranger is now back with his 12th album, Sweet Talking, and another big step towards bringing back the golden age of rub-a-dub!

Grant Phabao plays all instruments (with the help of keyboard wizard Soul Sugar, formerly from Seven Dub). He produced, polished and mastered himself the 13 tracks, along with three other full length albums (!), for respectively Carlton Livingston, The Silvertones and The Jays...

"We try use sounds and tension/release effects in our musical narratives the same way an archeologist would do with words while relating the lost treasures he encounters in his private diary" says Franck about these haunting athmospheres that are real "conceptual continuity" clues to be found in each of Massak's instrumental releases.
Remixed,remastered, with a different running order of songs this new edition of Realms Of Atlantis features the underground hit B.L.A. that got it all started for Massak on the international level.

Recorded in Cameroon, this Afrolectric 9-tracker - with 9 spoken interludes of some selected elders' wisdom - tells the history and the links of a Southern country with Europe, with an interrogative and perplexed glance over the present state of things.

Mixed by Grant Phabao in Paris, Visions Of Kamerun gathers African harmonies, delicate traditional percussions, subtle afro-jazz drummings, delicious minimal guitar riffs, the tropically powerful Massak horn section, with soulful vocals from Franck Biyong, Sandra NKaké and Gladys Gambie.

Defining a salutary musical movement called Nuevo Afropean Jazz, with a solid, deeply sincere emotional core, the album balances equally between Jazz exploration, rhythmic vivacity, Soul depth and cultural immersion.

One Foot In Jail is the first venture for the Colored-Inc. label into African vibes. Blending Nigerian harmonies with American Soul or Jamaican Funk, European folk & electronics with Afrobeat, Jazz with souful reggae or deep poetry, with some hefty doses of Reggae, Psychedelia and African percussions in between, this is indeed a kind of a Afrofunk Jazz Thing, a fantastic record pushing the Colored-Inc. label's identity quest deep into the exploration of African, Carribean and Afro-American music.
