Colored-Inc. featured on The Goldbrick

Colored-Inc. featured on The Goldbrick, right after Madlib and Aloe Blacc, and right before Voodoo Funk and Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics... Quite cool!!

Need to catch up on the quality releases from Colored-Inc. Especially the Hard 2 Find series! Give their jukebox a listen for a superb mix of tunes from their catalog including an exclusive Grant Phabao ‘Jazz Rework’ version of “Could Be Bitter” from Carlton Livingston’s Bridge of Life LP.  Couple freebies are on offer over there as well. Grab Franck Biyong & Massak’s Afro-Beat tune “U.P.C.” off the Visions of Kamerun LP and Doctor L’s Spiritual Jazz x Slam Poetry tune “Vocal Kid-Napping” off his Land-Escape LP.

Franck Biyong & Massak - Rhythms of our Memory (COLI017) out june 21st 2010

Franck Biyong & Massak - Rhythms of our Memory
New Directions In Afro Music - Volume 2
(Limited CD/Download) Colored-Inc. COLI017, 2010-06-21

This is the second 'straight from the vault' recordings from Afrolectric Music, a compilation of Massak's most adventurous music, with limited commercial potential (needless to say)... but, who really cares about that?? Based on the celebrations of the abolition of Slavery in France (that took place only 4 years ago officially...), this music dives deeper inside a 'dark night of the soul' state of mind, while bringing forth new sonic dimensions to this bold free-form Afro Jazz madness. The highlight tracks include fine orchestrations combined with the spirit of (outer space) improvised music. These Rhythms of our memory pay homage to a long time oral tradition: Continuity in spontaneity...

Franck Biyong & Massak - Visions of Kamerun (COLI011) out June 7th 2010

Franck Biyong and Massak Visions Of Kamerun
Franck Biyong & Massak - Visions of Kamerun
New Directions In Afro Music - Volume 3
(Limited CD/Download) Colored-Inc. COLI011, 2010-06-07

Recorded in Cameroon, this Afrolectric 9-tracker - with 9 spoken interludes of some selected elders' wisdom - tells the history and the links of a Southern country with Europe, with an interrogative and perplexed glance over the present state of things.

Mixed by Grant Phabao in Paris, Visions Of Kamerun gathers African harmonies, delicate traditional percussions, subtle afro-jazz drummings, delicious minimal guitar riffs, the tropically powerful Massak horn section, with soulful vocals from Franck Biyong, Sandra NKaké and Gladys Gambie.

Defining a salutary musical movement called Nuevo Afropean Jazz, with a solid, deeply sincere emotional core, the album balances equally between Jazz exploration, rhythmic vivacity, Soul depth and cultural immersion.

Doctor L - Land-Escape (COLI005) out may 31st 2010

Doctor L Land Escape
Doctor L - Land-Escape
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI005, 2010-05-31

In those troubled times, where the world goes upside down, we do need good medecine to cure our sorrows... Hopefully the good Doctor is back with a new remedy, a full LP set untitled Land-Escape.

Some may call it ambient jazz, some others avant-garde or contemporary, the music you're about to hear is the result of hours of rehearsals and musical 'rencontres' at Doctor L's studio. It's free and improvised music with attitude, definitely different and personnal stuff, uncompromised yet popular, one for the road or for your living room, a great combination of live sounds and studio wizardry.
