Black Magic - Hard 2 Find Vol.5 (COLI019) out december 20th, 2010 182

Black Magic Hard 2 Find Vol 3
Black Magic - Hard 2 Find Vol.5
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI019, 2010-12-20

An artistic revolution has been ongoing these recent years in Paris, with some unique producers breathing new life into the idea of jazz music, upping the standards of sound and production to those of the masters - Miles Davis, Lee Perry, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, Traffic and the such...

From the message-intense material, impressionistic soundscapes and folk musings of Doctor L to the dancefloor-filling cosmic afro and soulful roots reggae vibes of Grant Phabao, the Colored-Inc. collective has managed to create a solid universe, showcasing the many facets of the jazz spectrum in the shape of a free-minded label, undoubtly this year's most ambitious one.

Black Magic is their fifth experience in cooperative expression, a voodoo-themed concept album of music suitable for the dancefloor or the living room, a fresh wave of Jazz, Soul, Afro & Reggae production, untangling the scribble of the wicked world with clarity and maturity, and bringing Paris back to its rightful place, the cultural center of the world.

Franck Biyong & Massak - Voodoolectric Ground (COLI020) out november 7th 2010 143

Franck Biyong and Massak Voodoolectric Ground
Franck Biyong & Massak - Voodoolectric Ground
New Directions In Afro Music - Volume 5
(Limited CD/Download) Colored-Inc. COLI020, 2010-11-25

In the Jungle there Lies a trace, of connection between the Earth and Space...

This first sentence of the spoken-poetry inspired track Afro Map of Space enlightens us about the musical texture of this brand new release by Franck Biyong and Massak. From the traditional rhythms of Central Africa to the swinging beats of Congo Square, the words, messages, hopes and aspirations were always carried by the sheer power of the drums and embodied by the beauty of dancing. In Basaa, Massak means Spiritual Dance...

Musical wisdom was only explored to the fullest while being taught within a secret order. The Electric Voodoo Ground you’ll discover here (where else but on Colored-Inc?) is surrounded by late night mystery and close cousin to the Electric Miles Pan-African sonic experiences of the mid 70’s. These multidirectional rhythms and harmonies are leaning towards Freedom of the Soul... and Initiation for an African Renaissance.

New Directions In Afro Music - Volume 4
(Limited CD/Download) Colored-Inc. COLI017, 2010-07-27

Pursuing their productive collaboration with the Colored-Inc. label, this is yet another release from Franck Biyong & Massak. This collection of moods and athmospheres explores a more relaxed and spiritual dimension of their music.
"We try use sounds and tension/release effects in our musical narratives the same way an archeologist would do with words while relating the lost treasures he encounters in his private diary" says Franck about these haunting athmospheres that are real "conceptual continuity" clues to be found in each of Massak's instrumental releases.
Remixed, remastered, with a different running order of songs this new edition of Realms Of Atlantis features the underground hit B.L.A. that got it all started for Massak on the international level.

Franck Biyong & Massak - Rhythms of our Memory
New Directions In Afro Music - Volume 2
(Limited CD/Download) Colored-Inc. COLI017, 2010-06-21

This is the second 'straight from the vault' recordings from Afrolectric Music, a compilation of Massak's most adventurous music, with limited commercial potential (needless to say)... but, who really cares about that?? Based on the celebrations of the abolition of Slavery in France (that took place only 4 years ago officially...), this music dives deeper inside a 'dark night of the soul' state of mind, while bringing forth new sonic dimensions to this bold free-form Afro Jazz madness. The highlight tracks include fine orchestrations combined with the spirit of (outer space) improvised music. These Rhythms of our memory pay homage to a long time oral tradition: Continuity in spontaneity...
